Overview
Basis ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights. Basis is a finance education app — we collect only what is necessary to provide the service and improve your learning experience.
Basis is operated by Thomas Amara, an individual based in France. Basis is not currently operated through a registered company. If that changes, this section will be updated with the relevant business registration details.
Information We Collect
Account data (optional): If you create an account, we collect your email address and, if you sign in via Apple or Google, a unique identifier from that provider. Creating an account is optional — the app works in full guest mode with progress saved locally on your device.
Progress data: Your XP, streak, completed lessons, and daily goals are stored locally on your device. If you create an account, this data is also synced to our servers (Supabase) so you can access your progress across devices.
Notification preferences: If you enable streak reminders, we store the reminder time you choose. Notifications are sent via Expo's notification infrastructure and are processed locally on your device.
Usage data: We do not currently run analytics beyond what is necessary to identify bugs and crashes. We do not sell your data.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and improve the Basis app
- Sync your learning progress across devices (if you have an account)
- Send streak reminder notifications (only if you enable them)
- Process your subscription if you subscribe to Career Accelerator
We do not use your data for advertising, sell it to third parties, or share it except as described below.
Third-Party Services
Supabase: We use Supabase for authentication and cloud progress sync. Your email and progress data are stored on Supabase's infrastructure. See supabase.com/privacy for their privacy policy.
Apple / Google Sign In: If you use Apple or Google to sign in, those providers share a unique identifier and optionally your email address with us. Their privacy policies govern their handling of your data.
Expo: The app is built with Expo, which may collect device and crash data for debugging purposes. See expo.dev/privacy.
RevenueCat: Subscription management is handled via RevenueCat. Their privacy policy applies to subscription transactions.
Sentry: We use Sentry for crash reporting. Sentry is not currently active on Basis — no data is sent to Sentry until it is configured and turned on. This policy is disclosed in advance so it doesn't go stale the moment it is enabled. See sentry.io/privacy.
PostHog: We use PostHog for product analytics. PostHog is not currently active on Basis — no data is sent to PostHog until it is configured and turned on. This policy is disclosed in advance so it doesn't go stale the moment it is enabled. See posthog.com/privacy.
International Data Transfers
Some of the providers listed above (for example, Supabase) may process your data outside France or the European Economic Area. Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, to protect your data.
Data Retention
Guest users: All data is stored locally on your device. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data.
Account users: Your account data and progress remain on our servers until you request deletion. To delete your account and all associated data, contact us at the address below.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Withdraw consent at any time (including notification permissions)
- Object to our processing of your data
- Request restriction of processing
- Request a portable copy of your data
- Lodge a complaint with the CNIL (France's data protection authority), or your local data protection authority

Children's Privacy
Basis is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as we add new features. We will notify you of significant changes via the app. Continued use of Basis after any change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
